Ukrainian Oil & Gas Association Stands on Novohrad-Volynskyi Terminal Freeze

The Ukrainian Oil & Gas Association is concerned with the situation related to attempts to block operation of the terminal in the city of Novohrad-Volynskyi.

As a representative of the largest national oil-traders that run their business activities transparently and legally, and provide up to 80% of imports to the market, the Ukrainian Oil & Gas Association insists that such actions do a fatal damage both to the business reputation of the state and ordinary consumers.

Members of public organisations, which organised the protest action near the terminal owned by the company Prykarpatzapadtrans, declare that they fight against fuel smuggling and tax evasion. At the same time, as usual no accusation was proven by figures and facts from any official sources.

The Ukrainian Oil & Gas Association would like to warn, that blockout of the terminal transmitting almost 30% of diesel fuel supply to Ukraine would inevitably cause the reduction of diversification of supply sources and a new cycle of consumer price growth by at least 40~60 USD per 1 tonne or 1~1.50 UAH per 1 litre sold in retail regardless of the market competition and currency exchange rate.

Civilized states do not permit interference of public organisations with business operations. Only competent authorities should have the right to inspect financial and business activities of entities and present accusations based on inspection results.

Currently the Association has drafted official enquiries to the Administration of President, Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry for Internal Affairs, State Security Service, Anti-Monopoly Committee, State Fiscal Service, industrial ministries and bodies, and also to international organisations asking them to influence the situation that might seriously destabilise the fuel market in Ukraine.
